Vaping FAQ

What is vaping?

Vaping is the use of an electronic device that heats e-liquid to produce an aerosol. Products containing nicotine are for adults aged 18 and over, and nicotine is addictive.

How does an e-cigarette work?

An e-cigarette is a battery-powered device that heats a liquid (known as e-liquid or vape juice) containing nicotine, flavourings, and other chemicals, producing a vapor. This vapor is inhaled by the user, simulating the experience of smoking.

What is e-liquid or vape juice?

E-liquid, often termed vape juice, is a mixture used in vapor products like e-cigarettes. It usually contains nicotine, flavourings, glycerine (VG), and propylene glycol (PG).

Is there a difference between vaping and smoking?

Smoking burns tobacco. Vaping devices heat e-liquid to produce an aerosol. Vaping is not risk-free. For independent health information, visit NHS.uk.

Is nicotine always present in e-liquids?

No. E-liquids come in various nicotine strengths, including zero-nicotine options. Users can choose according to their preference and needs.

What are PG and VG in vape juices?

PG (Propylene Glycol) and VG (Vegetable Glycerine) are the primary base ingredients in e-liquids. PG tends to deliver a sharper throat hit, while VG is thicker and provides denser vapor clouds. E-liquids come in various PG/VG ratios.

Are there risks associated with vaping?

Vaping is not risk-free and nicotine is addictive. For independent health information, visit NHS.uk.

How do I maintain my vaping device?

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance. This can include cleaning the tank, replacing coils or atomizers, and ensuring the battery is in good condition.

How do I choose the right vape device for me?

Vape devices come in various shapes and sizes, from simple pod systems to advanced mods. Your choice depends on your experience level, preferences, and desired nicotine intake.

What are vape pods and pod systems?

Pod systems are compact vaping devices that use refillable or disposable pods. They are popular due to their simplicity and are suitable for beginners.

What's the difference between mouth-to-lung (MTL) and direct-to-lung (DTL) vaping?

MTL mimics cigarette smoking, where you draw vapor into your mouth before inhaling to the lungs. DTL involves drawing vapor directly into the lungs, producing denser clouds.

How long does a coil last?

The lifespan of a coil varies based on usage, e-liquid type, and device wattage. On average, a coil lasts between one to three weeks.

Why does my vape taste burnt?

A burnt taste often indicates a "dry hit." It can be due to a worn-out coil, low e-liquid in the tank, or vaping at too high a wattage.
